Matchup plan

Against long-range mages like Orianna, consider taking Arcane Comet. It greatly enhances your trading in lane and feels smoother than Electrocute, though it falls off in the mid-late game.

Vex vs Orianna · Mid lane matchup

01

Core game plan

If you bait her abilities, you can trade, but Orianna has long range and strong kiting. At equal skill, it comes down to details and positioning. Not a hard matchup, but not easy either.

How a strong Orianna player plays

  1. 1

    Bait E, then counter-trade

Orianna uses her E shield to block your poke. Use forward-backward movement to bait her E; after she uses it, you can trade actively.

  2. 2

Stay away from ball to reduce Q accuracy

Orianna uses her ball's position to land Q. Stay away from her ball; she must reposition it, making her Q slower and easier to dodge.

  3. 3

    Watch for W speed boost/kiting

Orianna uses W to speed up or slow down for kiting. When your Gloom gauge is half full, engage, but she may use W to disengage.
