Matchup plan

Take Presence of Mind because you'll use E frequently against Jax, and mana can run low. First item: Plated Steelcaps for movement speed and basic attack damage reduction, countering Jax's auto-attack damage.

Darius vs Jax · Top lane matchup

01

Core game plan

Jax's E perfectly counters Darius's core combo; trading E cooldowns is unfavorable. At equal skill, it's hard to win; you need to rely on kiting and item advantage.

How a strong Jax player plays

  1. 1

    E Cooldown Advantage

He will abuse his 7-second shorter E cooldown: first trade he uses E, second trade he jumps on you while your E is on cooldown.

  2. 2

    Q into Inner Circle

When you start Q, he will Q directly into your inner circle to avoid outer damage and stun you.

  3. 3

    Block W then Stick

When you start W, he blocks the slow with E, then doesn't auto but walks into melee range so you can't kite.
