Matchup plan

Against Malphite, build Blade of the Ruined King first, then Black Cleaver. You can also go Blade into Wit's End. After two items, you become strong. Wait for Blade and Black Cleaver before teamfighting. Normal builds or Hullbreaker won't work; you need Blade for teamfight power.

Irelia vs Malphite · Top lane matchup

01

Core game plan

Malphite maxing E reduces attack speed, which counters Irelia hard. Early trades are difficult; you need Blade of the Ruined King and two items to fight him.

Levels 1-3: freeze lane and farm, avoid trading; Malphite's E reduces your attack speed.Laning phase: dodge his Q, wait for Grievous Wounds to end before Qing minions to heal.Post-6: Malphite's R can kill you; watch his cooldowns and don't get engaged on.Mid game: after Blade and Black Cleaver, you become strong; split push to farm.Teamfights: with two items, you have enough damage to fight Malphite.

How a strong Malphite player plays

  1. 1

    Ground Slam reduces attack speed

Malphite uses E to heavily reduce your attack speed. Be careful when your passive is stacked; don't let him nullify your damage.

  2. 2

    Q poke and slow

Malphite frequently uses Q to poke and slow you. Dodge it to avoid free damage.

  3. 3

Auto attacks during W to stack Grasp

When you use W to stall, Malphite will auto you to stack Grasp of the Undying. Don't use W without your passive.
