Matchup plan

Primary: Fleet Footwork for general survivability; Conqueror only for experienced players; Grasp of the Undying has low scaling, not recommended. Secondary: Aggressive setup for experienced players; beginners take Resolve (Second Wind) or Inspiration (Biscuits) for survivability. Against heavy CC or kiting? Take Phase Rush to stick to enemies and not get kited. Start Doran's Ring; if early pressure is high, first recall buy Despair's Armor to survive. If maxing E, Trinity Force is wasteful—go Iceborn Gauntlet for more tankiness. Early on, you can buy Anathema's Chains on Jax to ensure you don't get solo killed.

How a strong Jax player plays

  1. 1

    Q Leap Trade

Jax may start Q or W; with Grasp, he'll Q-AA-W then back off for a free trade.

  2. 2

    Bait Counter Strike

Jax uses E's dodge and stun to trade; bait out his E before fighting back.

  3. 3

    Freeze Wave for Jungle Dive

Jax will freeze a big wave and coordinate with his jungler to dive you; manage the wave to avoid being dove.
